RETHINKING EPIDEMICS IN MEDIEVAL AND EARLY MODERN EUROPE
About EUROpest project
EUROpest is an interdisciplinary research project exploring how social, environmental, and biological factors shaped epidemic diseases in late medieval and early modern Europe. By combining historical sources with archaeological, genetic, ecological, and climate data, the project seeks to better understand past outbreaks—especially plague—and use this knowledge to inform future pandemic research and policy.
CRISIS AND RECOVERY IN PREMODERN CENTRAL EUROPE
About CRISES project
This project investigates why some states collapse while others survive deep crises and rebuild. By comparing Brandenburg and Greater Poland between 1200 and 1800, it analyzes how institutions, economies, climate, epidemics, and environmental pressures shaped the resilience—or failure—of premodern social-ecological systems.
